Eurogypsum organised a breakfast event in Brussels for the launch of its climate neutrality roadmap on 1st February 2024, with the participation of Alexandre Paquot, Director of Innovation for a Low Carbon, Resilient Economy at the European Commission’s DG CLIMA. More than 30 participants attended the meeting.
On this occasion, Eurogypsum presented its roadmap “Towards Climate Neutrality with Gypsum”, which builds upon the industry commitment to transition toward net zero, providing insights on the key levers for decarbonising, the state of play and what the majors challenges are, as well as how policy and increased collaboration can support our industry journey.
The EU and international political and policy context was central in the debate, a few weeks after the launch of a Global Buildings Breakthrough at the COP28, a week before the presentation of climate policy targets for the EU by 2040, and four months before the elections to the European Parliament.
The event showed the importance of implementing the climate policy framework, in particular as regards the renovation of buildings, and working in partnership with regulators, other industries and stakeholders, to allow for a timely move to a carbon neutral built environment in Europe. The gypsum sector will be instrumental in supporting this move.
