A picture is worth a thousand words! This is why Eurogypsum has organised the first edition of its Biodiversity Awards, asking members to send pictures illustrating various aspects of biodiversity in Europe’s gypsum quarries. For the first edition, the Eurogypsum secretariat received 57 entries from six European countries, grouped in four categories: biodiversity gains, fauna, flora and landscapes.
An independent jury panel reviewed all pictures and assessed them according to several parameters (theme compliance, aesthetics and composition, as well as creativity).
The winners of each category were granted the Biodiversity Awards 2024 at the Eurogypsum autumn reception in Brussels on 6th November 2024, in the presence of Eurogypsum’s President, Christoph Dorn, and several of the jury members. Furthermore, all participants in the reception were asked to vote for their preferred picture out of the awarded photos. A “people’s vote” award was therefore granted as well.
We would like to congratulate the winners and thank all applicants for the fantastic pictures they have shared. A big thank you also to our jury panel: Przemysław Ogiński (European Commission, DG Environment), Thomas Sebrechts (BirdLife Europe & Central Asia), Shane Sparg (HeidelbergMaterials) and Michal Wiezik (Member of the European Parliament).
