Emmanuel Normant, Vice-President for Sustainable Development at Saint-Gobain, takes over from Christoph Dorn, Managing Director at Knauf.
Brussels, 13 April 2026
Emmanuel Normant is the new president of Eurogypsum, the Brussels-based European association representing the gypsum supply and processing industry. Normant is the Vice-President for Sustainable Development of the Saint-Gobain group, the worldwide leader in light and sustainable construction with headquarters in Paris, France.
Eurogypsum represents the interests of the European gypsum industry towards European institutions. The association, established in 1961, has been particularly active to develop the industry’s contribution to European strategic and societal objectives, such as decarbonisation, the circular economy or biodiversity management. Most recent initiatives include the launch of a roadmap towards water resilience, mapping out the industry’s water footprint, the relevance of dry construction methods, and identifying conducive policies and industry actions to support the European Union’s Water Resilience Strategy.
“The economic and geopolitical situation today makes it indispensable for Europe to acknowledge the vital role of the construction sector. The EU is home to global leaders in sustainable and resource-efficient construction, companies supplying domestic jobs and processing local resources into solutions to build and renovate our houses”, said Normant. “Economical, low-carbon, lightweight and recyclable, gypsum-based products are instrumental for Europe to achieve a sustainable building stock and meet citizens’ need for decent and affordable housing”, he added.
Emmanuel Normant, a French national, was appointed by the association’s board of directors meeting today in Brussels, to take over the presidency from Christoph Dorn, Managing Director at Knauf. “In the new European institutions’ mandate, housing has clearly become a major issue for European policymakers. As a president of Eurogypsum, my priority in the last two years has been to make EU institutions aware of the potential for lightweight construction to address the housing supply challenge. I’m happy to see the increased recognition of vertical extension, repurposing of buildings and urban densification as part of the solution”, said Dorn.
“With an extremely tense global economic situation, increasing energy costs and growing uncertainty, more than ever, Europe’s progressive industries and policymakers need to work together, to ensure access to housing does not become a luxury”, said Normant. “I look forward to continuing the work achieved by my predecessor as the new president of Eurogypsum”, he added.
The president’s mandate at Eurogypsum is performed gratuitously for a period of two years. The president is supported by several expert groups and a secretariat led by Tristan Suffys.
